Jimmy Buffett is going on annual tour again, yes, it's been 40 years of touring for him and his band! I just read this in the Sunday news yesterday. I've never really been a fan of Buffett, however, one of his big hits was the foundation of many a musical night on the playa. Who hasn't sat around a full moon fire with friends and sang offkey with all their heart and not just a little tipsy: “wastin' away again in Raicillaville” (Margaritaville), and, one of his 1977 hits, Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes. This was hardcore Yelapa entertainment, folks. According to the newspaper, the name of the upcoming tour will be: The Year of Still Here and just maybe that should be the name of this blog!
“At 61, the poster boy for laid-back living is in the middle of a 28-concert tour, filled with third-generation fans. No, Buffett says, he isn't tired of it. And if you haven't seen thousands of so-called Parrotheads acting like sharks-with hands clasped above their heads-all singing, “fins” moving in unison, you've missed a cultural phenomenon.” quotation from interview with Buffett by Ann Oldenburg in USA Weekend.
I can't believe I'm as old as Jimmy Buffett. But does he feel old? “No,” adding, with a twinkle in his eye, “I'm certainly not acting my age.” Now that's a Yelapan attitude!
